I came across the results of a business survey done this summer that had some interesting results for virtual entrepreneurs.
The survey was conducted by CDW, a company providing technology products and services. They surveyed over 850 CEOs of midsize companies in numerous industries including law, manufacturing, real estate and telecommunications, and asked them a number of questions about their business and how it runs. The purpose of the survey, entitled “The Business Rearview Mirror”, was to advise small business owners of the issues they will face as they grow.
Over half of the CEOs considered “employee recruiting and retention” a significant challenge in growing their business, followed by over 30% who mentioned “satisfying employment regulations”. Of course, these are both areas where a virtual assistant provides the perfect solution.
The survey also revealed that almost three-quarters of the CEOs with the greatest affection for new technology or, as the survey characterized them, “total geeks”, had double-digit annual growth in the last five years. Again, a positive for the virtual industry because someone with such a mindset will be more naturally alert to the advantages state of the art virtual assistance can provide.
Although these results do reflect the attitudes of the brick and mortar company rather than the solo practitioner, the same needs are expressed.
The survey was conducted by O’Keeffe & Co. and the results are summarized at Yahoo News (“Why ‘Total Geeks’ Build Businesses Faster).
